Jerry Wike Harris, 88, passed away September 19th, 2024, peacefully at home. He was the son of the late Grady Harris and Catherine Wike Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Henry and Alice Harris, and his wife of 34 years Polly Israel Harris.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 22nd, at First Baptist Church in Lincolnton with Dr. Stanley Spence and Dr. Aaron Rice officiating. The family will receive family and friends immediately after the service in the sanctuary.
Jerry was born on August 29th, 1936, in Charlotte. He grew up in Mountain Island Village in Mount Holly and later lived in Lincolnton. Jerry retired from Duke Energy with 38 years of dedicated service. He was a charter member of the Mount Holly Rescue Squad, a member of First Baptist Church of Lincolnton and the Lincolnton Lions Club. Jerry enjoyed gardening, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Sarah Springs (Greg). Three Stepchildren; Steve Lancaster (Lyn), Laura Caldwell (Allen), and Chris Lancaster (Cindy); grandchildren, Joshua (Abby), Christopher (Rob), Bradley (McKenzie), Kyleigh (Nolan), Mason and Mattie; great-grandchildren, Ella, Ezra, Corbin, Camden, and Caleb.
The family would like to give special thanks to his wonderful caregivers: Michele, Linda, Holly, Shelby, Vickie, and Tammie from Stress Free Management of Stanley; his awesome nurse Lauren Anson from Carolina Caring Hospice of Newton; and his special caregivers McKenzie Reynolds and Kathy Smith.
Jerry suffered through a battle with a rare form of melanoma, nodular melanoma. It was his and his family's wish to donate his body to the Wake Forest Bowman Gray School of Medicine in hopes that Jerry's death might help find a cure for those that are afflicted with this disease in the future.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Lincolnton, and/or Carolina Caring Hospice of Newton.
