Mildred Hazel Blankenship Gragg, 88 of Landis, NC died, after an extended illness, Thursday, December 12 at Atrium in Pineville. She was born March 4,1936 in Rutherford County.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Billy Gragg, two brothers Garland Blankenship, Alton Blankenship, and sister Alice Blankensiip Edwards.
She worked 20 years as a nurse at the VA hospital in Salisbury, NC. A back injury ended that career, but she found a new calling as she began catering, decorating, and sewing for numerous weddings, showers, etc., involving family and friends in "her" fun. She also found time to work the polls at election time. Before her illnesses, she was a long time member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church.
Her life was full of family, friends, cooking, catering, canning and traveling. She tirelessly served God - being on hospitality committee, singing in choir, church dinners.
She is survived by daughter Billie (Debbie); son Joseph Gragg; and daughter Libby Byars (Robert); grandchildren Scott Hutchison (Ashley); Aaron Hutchison (Stacy); Aron Wayne Gragg (Cynthia); Zack Gragg; Ben Gragg (Nicole); and Vadim Pateshkin. Also, 'Nana' had 10 great-grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service, Saturday, December 21, 11:00 a.m., with visitation to follow at North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust Street, Kannapolis, NC
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North Kannapolis Baptist Church.
Scott Hutchison, her grandson, wrote - "people often say 'my door is always open', but few actually live it. Mildred Gragg is one person who lived her life that way. There is no doubt ... that Nana heard Christ say 'well done my good and faithful servant".
In lieu of flowers, please see donation note above.
